2011: Year of Wisconsin State Parks

Goal: Visit 10 Wisconsin State Parks in 2011.
Progress: Bought the sticker and 2 down.

We visited Peninsula Sate Park near Fish Creek in Door County, WI. http://www.dnr.state.wi.us/org/land/parks/specific/peninsula/

Saturday, March 5, Dad, Andy and I hiked the 2 mile Eagle Trail at Peninsula State Park. It was a cold, windy and dreary day with almost no sun. We only met two other hikers on the trail and they were well equipped with their YakTrax and Hiking sticks. We had our homemade, forest found hiking sticks to help us up and down the treacherous terrain, of which there was some. The rocks, caves and landscape made the cold temps and intense winds all worth while.

Sunday, March 6, on the way home, Andy and I hiked Whitefish Dunes State Park near Sturgeon Bay, WI. http://dnr.wi.gov/org/land/parks/specific/whitefish/

We walked on the beach with the sound of the waves crashing into the icy sand. We took Red Trail back to the nature center to finish the 1.5 mile hike. On the way, we saw reproduced Native American huts and “villages” when they lived there from 600AD to 1400 AD.

We are lucky enough to have about 70 state parks in Wisconsin alone! So go out and find some trails and enjoy the greenery!
We have 8 more to visit this year.
Last year we only visited three awesome parks, so we will have to hop to it to make 10 this year.
-Peninsula State Park in Door County, WI.
-Willow River State Park near Hudson,WI
-Interstate Park near St.Croix Falls, WI

As for the rest of the trip we accomplished a lot. Ice skated, 1 dart game, 2 pool games, 3 games of swimming pool HORSE, 3 ping pong games, swam in 2 swimming pool, three hot tubs, water aerobics, 1 sauna, visited 2 state parks and 1 county park, shopped for road bicycles, watched one movie, played with nieces and enjoyed Wisconsin!
